Several schools across York Region participated in the #IGiveAShirt campaign, where students collected worn clothing and other textiles that were donated to the Value Village and Diabetes Canada for resale.
Schools are competing for funding — clothes for cash — with the school collecting the most used clothes can win up to $5,000 for the school.
The #IGiveAShirt challenge was created by the Recycling Council of Ontario (RCO), together with Value Village, to help educate students about textile reuse and rewear.
“This is the age when kids think about what they’re wearing,” said Jo-Anne St. Godard, Recycling Council of Ontario executive director. "We want to get them to think about where their clothes are made and what happens when they throw them out.”
