Mercury, Lamps, Recycling, and Retrofits

Health care facilities have significant impacts on the communities they serve in the three key pillars of sustainability: environment, economic, and health.

Forward-thinking organizations embrace sustainability as a way to improve the environment of care while lowering operating costs. These measures, especially those that are designed to improve energy, water, and waste management, have direct return on investment.

Greater efficiency and cost savings are then applied to the most important priority: patient and client care and security.

To support sustainability and resiliency efforts by health care organizations, the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care and Recycling Council of Ontario (RCO) are collaborating to deliver a series of free educational webinars for sustainability health care professionals across Canada.

The free series is open to greening health care practitioners and champions from across Canada with an interest in improving their knowledge and understanding of green health care waste management initiatives and opportunities.

Webinar participants will be provided with tools and resources to support their efforts in reducing health care-generated waste and increasing recycling. Presenters will share emerging solutions to help drive waste reduction while assisting hospitals to gain understanding on how to improve their waste management score in the Coalition’s Green Hospital Scorecard.

For Mercury, Lamps, Recycling, and Retrofits we will cover:

  • What recycling means
  • Environmental hazards associated with improper disposal of mercury-containing products
  • Recycling options, including leading-edge best practices
  • Tracking and verifying
  • Regulations at provincial, national, and global levels
  • What’s happening in the marketplace
  • ABCs of LED lighting retrofits
  • Value of retrofits
  • Available rebate programs
  • How can this add value to the Coalition’s Green Hospital Scorecard
