In 1978 Gwen co-founded Burlington Paper Products (later Halton's Recycled Resources Ltd.) with George Discepolo. Over the next few years the company would grow to encompass a regional processing facility and provide curbside recycling service to over 100,000 residences in several municipalities starting with Burlington, Milton and Oakville.
Extremely engaged and passionate about sharing her expertise during the seminal years of the recycling sector in Ontario, Gwen sat on many committees, advisory groups and task forces throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Her involvement spanned private, municipal and provincial concerns from principal of G&G Recycling and director of Curbside Separation and Recycling Ltd., to member of the province's Recycling Advisory Committee and the Halton Source Separation Committee, and to active involvement in the Ontario Waste Management Association and, of course, the Recycling Council of Ontario.
Indeed, Gwen was associated with the RCO from its very earliest days as a member, chair or co-chair of about half-a-dozen committees, and as President of the Board of Directors for two years (1983-1985). Her dedication to our Program Operators' Committee continued well into the mid-1990s. Gwen's generosity with her time and knowledge contributed enormously to the growth and success of the RCO during those decades.
A memorial celebration of Gwen's life will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 1140 King Street W. Hamilton, on Friday, August 24th at 3 p.m.
Friends and former colleagues wishing to express condolences to Gwen's family may do so here.
