On Tuesday, May 19 the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) recognized RCO for its ongoing support for the Recycle My Cell Student Challenge and Recycle My Cell program, and presented it with a 2015 Connected to the Community Award. The CWTA's awards program recognizes organizations across Canada that provides benefit to the community through wireless technology or the application thereof.
Recycle My Cell Student Challenge, Canada's national cell phone recycling program, encourages students to ensure that all old and out-of-use cell phones, smartphones, wireless PDAs, pagers, as well as their batteries and accessories, are properly recycled. For the past five years, RCO, on behalf Ontario and in association with sister councils in other provinces via Waste Reduction Week, helped CWTA deliver its message of proper handset disposal to youth. More than 700 schools have participated since 2010, collecting more than 20,000 wireless devices along with more than 1,500 kilograms of wireless accessories and batteries.
