Minister of the Environment Releases Review of the Waste Diversion Act 2002
On Wednesday, October 28th, Ontario's Minister of the Environment released a much anticipated and comprehensive report on the future of waste diversion in Ontario entitled From Waste to Worth: The Role of Waste Diversion in the Green Economy.
Minister Gerretsen highlighted the important role that new waste diversion technologies play in creating "a critical foundation for the kind of green economy we want in this province, one that protects and conserves natural resources while generating wealth and prosperity for Ontarians." He went on to add that "there are real economic opportunities in waste diversion, from reclaiming valuable materials that would otherwise have been buried forever, to innovative, economy-driving new recycling technologies."
The Minister was pleased to announce that "this proposed framework presents a new vision for waste management that will make Ontario a global leader in waste diversion and help build a green and sustainable economy."
